The American Society for Indexing is pleased to announce that long-time member Janet Perlman has been selected as the new editor for its journal Key Words, which is published quarterly.
As she takes on the role of editor, Janet’s goal is for ASI members to enjoy Key Words as a high-quality publication that keeps them in touch with their organization and also serves as their primary professional development tool. Her vision for Key Words is to elevate it to a professional journal for ASI.
She plans to publish professional-level articles on indexing tools, indexing theory and techniques, indexing projects of interest, and at the same time offer updates on the publishing and digital media industry.
“Not only should Key Words have content consistently relevant to the skillset of the working indexer, it should also contain news of the industry we work in,” Janet said. “So I will aim to have more business-oriented articles and articles about the publishing world in all its aspects. And, of course, Key Words will continue to include news of ASI events and members.”
“I want Key Words to be valued,” Janet said. “I want it to be a primo journal, and I’m excited about this opportunity to create a journal for ASI that all members are eager to read.”
Janet Perlman has been indexing for more than 25 years. Her specialties are science and engineering books. Much of her work is in Spanish. Janet has been active in ASI for more than 20 years. She was ASI Treasurer from 2010 to 2016. She received the Hines Award for Service in 2006.
Janet has written extensively on indexing. Her most recent book is Indexing Tactics & Tidbits: An A-Z Guide (ITI, 2016). She is author of Running an Indexing Business (Information Today Inc., 2002) and Index it Right, Vol. 2 (ITI, 2009, with Enid Zafran). She is a frequent workshop presenter at ASI conferences, and will be presenting in her home state of Arizona at “Bloom in the Desert” this spring.
