Indexing Playground
August 27
10 am Pacific | 11 am Mountain | 12 pm Central | 1 pm Eastern
The Indexing Playground is ASI’s version of water cooler conversation—an opportunity to informally gather with peers and chat about indexing. Because, let’s be honest, there really is no one else in your life who will listen to you go on about cross references and letter-by-letter vs word-by-word, is there?
The Zoom call will be divided into four breakout rooms. You can join one and stay, or slide in and out of them as you please. The rooms for this playground are:
- Indexing During Naptime: Indexing around children’s schedules—hosted by Gina Guilinger
- Indexing into the Sunset: When the retirement years are upon you—hosted by Carolyn Weaver
- Turning Peanuts into Caviar: Growing your business from a side job to your main job—hosted by Heather Pendley
- Recess: A digital sandbox with no agenda—hosted by Shelley Quattrocchi
Join us August 27th at 10:00 Pacific time/1:00 Eastern time.
ASI members, log in for the Zoom link you will use to join the Indexing Playground.
The name Indexing Playground was inspired by Margie Towery (Ten Characteristics of Quality Indexes). She said when she is indexing, she thinks “about creating a playground. Audiences arrive at the playground with diverse knowledge, experience, emotions, goals, and so on. The index serves as the playground in which audiences enter the world of the text.” On our playground, indexers with diverse knowledge will come together to have fun and talk about shared experiences.
If you have an idea for a future playground theme or would like to host a playground, contact Jen Weers or Gwen Henson.
