Joint 2016 ASI-ISC/SCI Annual Conference
Chicago, Illinois, United States
June 15–18, 2016
Save the Date/Call for Papers
The Indexing Conference for 2016 will be an international event! The Indexing Society of Canada/Société canadienne d’indexation (ISC/SCI) and the American Society for Indexing (ASI) have had a number of successful collaborations in the past (Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver) and we’re planning another stimulating, enjoyable, and valuable meeting in Carl Sandburg's “City of the Big Shoulders,” Chicago.
The sessions will be held at Conference Chicago University Center, a full-service, year-round conference facility in the South Loop of downtown Chicago, within walking distance of public transportation and easy access to O’Hare and Midway airports. Some dormitory accommodation is available at the conference center, and ASI-ISC/SCI will be recommending close-by hotels with good rates.
We’re still working out precise dates and times to get the best deal for our members, but the conference will be held over two days between June 15 and June 18, with board meetings on the preceding day, so save those dates in your calendar now!
Call for Presentation Proposals and Formats
We are also now opening the call for papers. Got an idea you’d like to share? We’d love to hear about it! We are accepting three-hour workshops, one-and-a-half-hour seminars, and short presentations (15-20 minutes).
Interested in presenting, but not sure what to talk about? Here are some ideas we’d love to hear members talk about:
- How to run a successful chapter program in a digital world
- What is a SIG (special interest group) for? SIG activities and aims
- Putting indexing out there: ideas on public outreach for indexing
Not sure if you want to present, but keen on taking an active part in a panel or someone else’s presentation?
- We’re looking for “plaintiffs” to bring common indexing conflicts before our own indexing “Judge Judy,” and for “defendants” to tell the other side of the story.
- We’re also looking for potential mentors and mentees to join in a panel where they can work out a mutually agreeable arrangement.
