The AI Committee of the American Society for Indexing is pleased to release our guide to evaluating an AI-generated book index for authors and editors. While our research indicates that generative AI does not produce adequate book indexes, we recognize that some authors, editors, and software developers may prefer to personally verify this, and so we have created the guide, which is designed to be a quick, efficient way to evaluate an index for adequacy.
