The Drama of Indexing
Scroll down for links to conference pages that will enrich your experience.
While we all enjoy a quiet life, occasionally even indexing gets dramatic. Conflicts with clients, despair over deadlines, and agonizing over embedding disturbs (and, yes, sometimes enlivens) our everyday lives. How do we cope? As any drama student or NASA astronaut will tell you: rehearse, rehearse, rehearse. Going over potentially dramatic scenarios and working out how to handle them beforehand allows you to be cool in a crisis.
The 2016 annual conference, a joint effort of the American Society for Indexing (ASI) and the Indexing Society of Canada (ISC/SCI), will be a signature opportunity for you to get some rehearsal in. With sessions on the latest developments in software programs, eBooks, recombinant indexes for textbooks, resolving client conflicts, embedding, taxonomies, and many others, you’ll be able to bone up on the latest techniques and trends in order to strut your stuff on the indexing stage.
In 2016 the Conference will be held in the heart of downtown Chicago, at the Conference Chicago at University Center (525 South State Street), steps away from the lakefront, Millennium and Grant Parks, The Art Institute of Chicago, Shedd Aquarium, Symphony Center, plenty of shopping areas, theaters, hotels, and and restaurants, and easy access to public transport via the "el" train and the bus system. This year we will not have a “conference hotel” as such; you’ll be able to choose your own accommodation from a plethora of options. We’ve provided a list of local hotels. Conference Chicago has some inexpensive dormitory-style accommodation available.
